FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.  How do I get started?
Contact us!  We will discuss the training process and costs involved in more detail.  We encourage anyone interested to come in to our location and take a tour and get further information.  We also offer demo flights to those who are interested.

2.  How much will this cost?
How much the program costs will vary from person to person.  If you look at our rates page, you can see the basic hour minimums for each rating.  Our basic rate for the R22 is 245.00/hour for dual instruction.

3.  Do I have to know how to fly airplanes first?
No!  You don't need to have any experience at all; we will teach you everything you need to know!

4.  Are there any other prerequisites?
You will need to be at least 17 years old for a private rating and 18 years old for a commercial.  Also, you will need to get an FAA medical (you can find a list of examiners here).  We suggest getting your 2nd class medical before starting the program.

5.  How long does it take to get done?
The program will take a varying amount of time depending on your availability.  If you can devote yourself to the training full time, it is not unheard of to get done in 12 months.  If you are only able to fly on weekends, it will obviously take you longer.  With no contracts, you are free to set your own schedule and can get done as quickly as you want.

6.  Are there other costs?
There are some other costs; you will need to purchase some text books and supplies such as a headset.  You will also have to pay for your check rides and written tests.  If you would like a more detailed breakdown, let us know and we will be happy to discuss them with you.

7.  I have heard about schools having contracts and time limits; what does that mean?  Do you have a contract?
No contract, no time limit!  Some schools will make you sign a contract stating that you will be done in a set amount of time.  In some of these contracts, you pay for a large portion of you training up front and there are huge penalties for quitting your training early.  We don't have contracts- you pay as you go, and you only pay for what you actually get.  We want to see you get through your training as quickly and safely as you want, but we understand that "life happens" and sometimes things take longer.

8.  How do I pay for this training?
We accept Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express, cash and checks.  We are also working with a financing company called Pilot Finance, Inc.  Click Here to visit their website.  Financing can also be obtained through the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association at AOPA.org.

9.  Why Robinson Helicopters?
The R22 and R44 have proved themselves as the most reliable and best priced training aircraft in the world.  We use Robinson's because of their track record and since most schools use this aircraft, it gives our CFI graduates the best chance of finding work as an instructor when they are done with training.

10.  Can I earn my college degree?
Yes! At Phoenix Helicopter Services, we have partnered with Utah Valley University to provide our students with the ability to earn their college degree while attending flight school. Visit our degree page for more details.
