Flight Training Programs and Requirements

Below are the minimum hours required by the FAA to complete the ratings.

Private Pilot Minimums

*  30 hours dual instruction
*  10 hours solo flight
*  Pass an FAA Written Knowledge Test
*  Pass an FAA Oral and Practical Flight Test 
*  Obtain a FAA Medical Certificate
*  Must be 17 years old
*  Be able to read, write, speak and understand English 

 

Instrument Rating Minimums

*  40 hours of dual instruction
*  50 hours of pilot in command cross country
*  Pass an FAA Written Knowledge Test
*  Pass an FAA Oral and Practical Flight Test 

 

Commercial Pilot Minimums

*  150 total hours
*  100 hours of pilot in command time FAA Written Knowledge Test
*  Pass an FAA Written Knowledge Test
*  Pass an FAA Oral and Practical Flight Test

 

Certified Flight Instructor Minimums

*  At least 3 hours of dual instruction
*  Pass the FAA Written Knowledge Tests
*  Pass an FAA Oral and Practical Flight Test

 

The hours listed above are the minimum hours required by the FAA to be eligible for the listed ratings.  It is not uncommon to fly more hours than required.  For details or further information on these programs or our other services, please contact us.
